How Dr Dennis Gross Dramatically Improved My Acne

First things first - this may look like a sponsored post for Dr Dennis Gross...but it is not. My mum has always taught me to spread love - if someone looks nice, tell them. If a brand is killing it, write a blog post about them (I may have modernised that point slightly because #millennial but the sentiment remains the same...)

So - here we are. Not sponsored.  I spent real dinero on every item you see here, but due to the ENORMOUS amount of love I feel for this brand, I just wanted to sing its praises - because I think Dr Dennis Gross is as close to a miracle as skincare can realistically get.

And it is absolutely not talked about enough in the blogging world.

Let's go back a year - I had just published this post where I stated that I was giving up on my skin. Instead of trying to fix the hormones I had no control over, I thought I'd just work on covering up my acne. However, in giving up on "fixing" my acne, I started noticing my skin looking so dry and dull, and fine lines were quickly appearing on my forehead due to all the drying acne products I'd been using, and it bummed me out.

Convinced I'd need botox within the hour, I marched down to Space NK and was introduced to Dr Dennis Gross - a brand I had never heard of but genuinely now refuse to live without (we're all for melodrama here on A Worthy Trend). Don't get me wrong, this stuff is bloody pricey, but - as cheesy as it sounds - it really is priceless finding something that works for your skin.

This skincare routine has dramatically changed my skin in the last eight months, and my skin really has never looked better, but I should preface this post by saying two things:

  1. My acne is not cured. It has been transformed beyond belief, so that during breakouts (although they are now less frequent), my skin looks healthier, stronger and much less angry - but I do still have acne.
  2. My next blog post will feature the other lifestyle changes I have made which have absolutely contributed to my improved skin in an equal amount to my new skincare routine - so I have a few additional factors to thank for my overall improved skin.

Anyway, let's get going...As with all of these products, I'm three bottles down, so I can fairly say I've trialled them for long enough to make a judgement, and I know how my skin truly reacts to them.

And just to prove how much I bloody LOVE this stuff...check out all my #empties...

Legit forgot to include it, but I start my routine by washing my face with the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Pore Perfecting Cleansing Gel, then my skincare routine commences:

ONE. Don't pick up the phone, you know he's only calling cause he's drunk and alone

TWO. Don't say the number 1 around Lois because she'll break into NEW RULES every. single. time.

Let's try that again...

I genuinely think these have had the biggest effect on my skin out of my entire (hefty) DG collection. I use these in the morning every 2-3 days (as they are too expensive to use daily - but one day when I'm rich and famous, watch out) - and when I have used these, my skin gives off such a lovely glow. But it's not just the immediate glow I get - it really has helped to calm down my breakouts, reduce my redness and I DEFINITELY have these to thank for reducing those tiny bumpy under the skin spots that you just cannot get to usually. Even just looking back at my first Youtube video a year ago, you can see SUCH a difference in the texture of my skin, and I have these peels to thank for that.

This addiction - yes, we're back to the dramatics - started as a free sample at Space NK after I had bought my first two Dr DG products. Now let's get one thing straight - the word peel scares the bahjeebus out of me and my sensitive, allergy and acne prone skin, but as the packet says - it's meant to help your complexion to appear smoother, with fewer fine lines, a more even tone and texture, and smaller-looking pores. So, understandably, I put my fears to one side and wiped this all over my face.

It's a pack of two pre-moistened wipes (ew), and the first wipe (Step 1) is your acid peel - packed with a combination of seven rejuvenating, powerful yet gentle, exfoliating acids. The second wipe (Step 2) controls the alpha hydroxy acid activity and delivers anti-aging actives, nourishing skin, keeping it balanced, smooth, and radiant.

This weightless, greaseless serum contains hyaluronic acid, evening primrose oil, and coconut fruit juice to instantly hydrate and plump skin, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

When mixed with a pump of the above serum, my skin feels so much smoother, more hydrated and calmer. My skin used to feel very tight and dry and a bit sore, but I no longer have those feelings after continued use of this product. My skin just looks and feels cared for (sorry it's taken me 24 years, skin).

This weightless, fast-absorbing gel-serum is power-packed with vitamin C, collagen amino acids, and proprietary energy complex.

This product was the main thing that was recommended to me in Space NK to help with fine lines.

Its main selling points are that it works to improve the appearance of imperfections like dullness, dark spots, rough texture and expression it literally sounded like a magic potion created solely with my skin in mind. And it genuinely genuinely works on all counts. Since I started using this, my skin looks so much brighter and healthier, and just alive to be honest! My skin always felt so lacklustre and dreary before, but now my fine lines are less noticeable and my redness caused by acne scarring is fading by the day. I still have some issues with redness around my nose, but this has helped a lot a lot a lot.

I don't have heaaaaaaps to say on this eye cream as I do with the other products mentioned in this post. It is a really lovely, cooling eye cream, but I haven't noticed much of a change in my under eyes, and to be honest sometimes this stings a little to apply and my under eyes can still feel very dry. So I am thinking about changing this up and trying another DG eye cream. I also do not own a DG moisturiser, so I'm thinking a cheeky SpaceNK trip needs to happen to revamp these last two steps of my skincare routine.

Moisture-attracting Hyaluronic Acid and elasticity-building Japanese "Green Caviar" algae provide line-filling hydration at the surface and improve skin suppleness. Caffeine, Carribean Gargonian Extract, and Sarsaparilla Root work synergistically to improve the appearance of dark circles and puffiness by reducing water retention under the surface.

So those are my thoughts on Dr Dennis Gross as a skincare brand - particularly for dehydrated, dull and acne prone skin. It honestly has worked wonders for me, and I cannot believe I had never heard of it until a skincare God in SpaceNK introduced us #memories.

See you in the next post, where I'll talk more about the lifestyle changes I have made which have, hand in hand with Dr Dennis Gross, helped to improve my acne enormously. I will also be sharing some luscious before and after pics so stay tuned for that!

Have you tried any Dr Dennis Gross products? I would love to hear your thoughts on the range, or any other skincare saviours that have done wonders for your skin?
