Hello from Greece!
My Dad and I flew out to Rhodes on Saturday because we have a villa out here that has been slightly neglected. On the outside, it is absolutely stunning, with the most incredible, unspoiled mountainous views. However, the interior has become more and more outdated as the years have gone on and I am absolutely determined to modernise the place, and get it on Airbnb because it's wasted by not sharing it with others. We've already had the entire villa painted white, which has done half the refurb job for us - the difference a bit of white paint can make is quite astonishing!
I'm going to be documenting our progress, along with our day trips around the island here on AWT, so if you're interested, make sure to check back every day for the previous day's adventure!
Before making a start on the biggest IKEA flat pack mountain I have ever seen, we decided to make the most of the Sunday sunshine and go for a walk around Afandou - a small town just a short drive from our villa. I've spent my childhood exploring these streets with my Dad, so it was lovely to return after such a long time. A lot has changed, and there are so many new coffee shops around, but bloody tragically, our favourite Greek cake shop is closed until the holiday season gets going in a few weeks time.
We eventually went back to the villa armed with the ingredients for a Greek salad to fuel us while we tackled the flat pack sofas (yes, that is a thing!), some patio furniture and the television table. Below is what the living room used to look like - the old sofas were beige leather. Trust me, you do not want to be napping on that after a morning in the sun. You'll be peeling yourself off it.
In Rhodes, there is very little choice so we've managed to source our new furniture entirely from IKEA. We'll attempt to scout out a few extra pieces on the island over the next few days (like fake plants, new curtains etc.) but I'm not holding my breath! My Dad and I love seventies, scandi design, so we've tried to reflect that in the pieces that we've chosen. We have opted for grey tones, with walnut wood, and bright mustard yellow accents cutting through the neutral palette.
I think we've made a pretty good start for Day One!
I'm going to be doing a post like this every single day while we're out here to document our progress, and to give you a sneak peek of our villa. I'm hoping to get some lovely photos of the whole place once we've finished, so make sure to check back each day!
I'm also going to attempt to weave some vlog-style videos at the end of each of these posts to show you around the villa and the island a bit more. Plus, I have plenty of outfit posts to come too.
See you tomorrow!
