My Workout Essentials & Smoothie Recipe

About a month ago, I entered a gym for the first time in, honestly, about 3 years. I do yoga regularly and absolutely love that, but the thought of stepping foot in a gym made my skin crawl. I decided I definitely needed some motivation, and now have an amazing personal trainer who has done the unthinkable: made me want to go to the gym. Sucks that I fractured my foot almost as soon as I found this passion, but I’ll be back on that workout train soon!

I thought I’d share some of my favourite healthy lifestyle/gym essentials and a smoothie recipe that I have been drinking non-stop since I got my ‘NutriBullet’ dupe (Breville Blend Active you win…but not at blending carrots, you really aren’t great at that…)

Avoin Fruit Infuser Bottle and Mint & Cucumber Water

I don’t know what it is about putting some chopped cucumber and mint into your water that makes you feel like you’re at a spa, but this is the most refreshing drink ever.

I’m a self confessed fizzy drink addict and I find it difficult to drink water on its own I’M SORRY. But a little bit of mint and cucumber makes it actually very drinkable. Also, this bottle is one of my favourite things in the world – anything to encourage those two litres a day am I right?

 My Fitness Pal

Ooh, I used to HATE this app. Literally hate it. I kinda still do. But I love it at the same time. I try to input my food every day – I mainly try and track how much sugar I eat because I have a terrible sweet tooth!

Anyway, I’ve got back into using it and THANK GOD for the barcode feature. You see that tiny little icon in the top right of the screen? That is such a timesaver! You just scan your food’s barcode and it automatically adds it to your food diary. SO MUCH EASIER than aimlessly searching for the exact loaf of bread you’ve been eating.

Lululemon Sports Bra & Leggings

Oh god I don’t really know what else to say other than I love these so much. Yes, they are bloody expensive and Lululemon is far from budget friendly. BUT they fit like a glove and are very good quality – forget embarrassing moments in yoga wearing see-through leggings. These are completely opaque. I spent quite a bit of money on a pair of Sweaty Betty gym leggings, wore them to the gym once and they lost their shape straight away which was really disappointing. These leggings stay super tight and comfortable and I love them to pieces. Also, the sports bra is surprisingly supportive and that criss-cross back though…!

Blackberry & Banana Almond Milk Smoothie

250ml Almond Milk

1 Frozen Banana

A handful of blackberries

1 tsp Maple Syrup

Optional: A handful of spinach

According to My Fitness Pal:

Calories: 199

Fat: 3.8g

Carbs: 41.8g

Protein: 3.2g

Feel free to leave out the spinach – I genuinely can’t stomach it some mornings! With or without the spinach however, this is the nicest smoothie I have made so far. I think it’s safe to say that since I got my blender I have been WAY too experimental with my smoothie recipes and it reallllllly wasn’t a good idea. I have wasted a lot of time and fruit so I think it’s best to stick with what I know! No more beetroot – what was I thinking?

What are your workout essentials?
