I’m writing this Thursday’s favourites with Christmas songs blaring. I’m very slowly slipping into the Christmas spirit – I want to fall head first but I’m stopping myself… I don’t want to be sick of Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe by Christmas Day, can’t think of much worse!
Anyway! This week, I’ve been loving some really affordable make-up that I wanted to share, plus I can’t tear myself away from my NowTV box. I have a 5000 word essay due in a week and this post seems to be the only thing getting written… I’ll get there eventually.
Hope you’ve had a great week so far!
My new power trio!
1. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
Do excuse my rather untidy eyebrows. Instead, turn your attention to my eyelashes… (weirdest sentence ever written?)
I used to use Benefit’s Roller Lash religiously, but the price tag was too much for student me and I was CONSTANTLY wiping black smudge off my brow bone. I don’t appreciate that from a £20 mascara! I switched to Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Mascara as the brush is plastic, which is my fave type of brush, and I’d heard really good things about it online.
Okay right so, this COMPLETELY rivals Roller Lash. It is so lengthening, voluminising and separating. It’s under a tenner, and no more black smudge. What more can you ask for?
The only reason I haven’t spoken about this before is because sometimes it just takes a selfie to realise what a sick job your mascara is doing, amiright?
2. L’Oréal Super Liner Perfect Slim
I bought this a couple of days ago, after months of dipping an old Topshop Magic Liner in a pot of gel liner (disgusting, I know). This is an absolute dream to use – it is so precise and opaque. The thin knib makes it so easy to draw a thin cat-flick, and the product comes out jet black. Highly recommend for anyone who finds winged eyeliner an absolute pain in the arse (so, most of us then…).
3. Rimmel Kate Moss Shadow Stick in Rose Gold
Due to the dreaded looming essay deadline I mentioned earlier, I haven’t been able to justify spending hours on the perfect smokey eye each morning. This shadow stick is SO quick and easy to use. I literally swipe it over my eyelids, blend with a fluffy brush, add some liner and mascara and I’m done. It’s a really beautiful orange-copper shade. It’s literally been the only eyeshadow I’ve worn for the last month!
I normally only buy Look magazine once in a while, but I tear through it so quickly I can barely justify buying it each week. During one of my many train journeys last month, I thought I’d buy InStyle for a change – absolutely nothing to do with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini being on the cover I promise…
Anyway, this is easily my favourite magazine now. It has the most AMAZING section all about make-up which I adore. It also features a really really nice blend of high-end and low-end products which I wasn’t expecting at all. I did have this misconception that it was a bit like Vogue – completely unobtainable. But it really isn’t!
During their Black Friday sale, my mum bought me a subscription for a year for only £12 as an early Christmas present. Definitely worth it considering each issue is £3.99! If any of you are stuck for a brilliant Christmas present idea, consider a magazine subscription!
5. True Blood
I started watching this show in my first year of uni with one of my flatmates and when we moved away from halls, I stopped watching. That was 3 years ago, where does the time go?!
I’ve recently got NowTV and have been BINGE watching this show again! It is amazing. For anyone who loves horror, gore and a desperate vampire love triangle, you need to watch this!
The show focuses on Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress living in Bon Temps in northwestern Louisiana. Vampires have started living amongst humans thanks to the creation of Tru Blood (synthetic blood). Throughout the series, other supernatural creatures are introduced and some are horribly creepy. The storylines are SO gripping. Damn each episode for ending on a cliffhanger – I can’t stay up til 3am every night, can I?
Perfect for you if you love: American Horror Story, The Vampire Diaries, True Detective, Dexter.
